Juice Cleanse Review

So I survived my juice cleanse, which I'm kind of surprised by. The beginning of the first day, I was so disgusted with the juices that I almost gave up. But by the time yesterday rolled by, I was able to pretty much breeze through the juices. The major problem I found was that I had horrible cravings the whole time, so instead of gradually beginning to incorporate solid foods into my diet like Urban Remedy recommends, the first thing I ate this morning was an egg and brie sandwich on a Hawaiian bun--fat, dairy, and gluten all at once. And I'll admit it, if I had found sausage in the fridge I would've cooked that up too--red meat, fat.
But I guess the juice cleanse me taught me how to handle my hunger. Whenever I'm bored or feel the slightest hungry, I stuff my mouth. But now, I know what hunger feels like and that I don't actually need to eat. I'm not positive this is a healthy approach, but is it that horrible feeling uncomfortable? Maybe I've just grown accustomed to being unnecessarily full? We'll see how resisting my hunger cravings serves me.
Back to the juice cleanse, I'm not sure if I'd do it again. Physically, I don't feel much different. Looking at myself in the mirror, I think I look thinner but that might be some placebo self-esteem thing. I don't think my stomach actually got small with those 3 days of starvation and a couple Soul Cycle classes. However, my skin didn't glow....I'm 95% positive of that. Also (and this is a tad TMI) besides having to pee all the time, I did NOT spend an abnormal amount of time on the toilet. Everyone warned me of that with a cleanse (I mean honestly Rachel, how else does it "cleanse" it from your body") but I guess I just peed it out or it was released through my pores or something. I felt fine.
All in all, it was an interesting experience, and I definitely got more work done during the past three days than the rest of break. Hopefully, this juice cleanse will really be the beginning of better habits. Here's to exercising more, eating better, and appreciating food more!

Daydreaming About: SUNO NY

I have a crush. And this crush is on a clothing line, SUNO NY. I'm pretty sure I'm behind the ball on this one, but I just discovered it when I was looking through Refinery29's SF street style photos (which I've been stalking obsessively in anticipation for my upcoming return). In their latest edition of park pics, this one girl was wearing the most adorable dress and I fell in love with it. I was so intrigued by the dress that I actually looked up the label she was wearing and once I got to their website I was overwhelmed.
Everything on it was so cool! The entire line was full of this chic, light, quirky preppy look that basically describes what I envision my summer to be. And they address every element of my dream summer from my summer dresses, shorts, swimsuits and even my pj's! As I continued to peruse their website, they only got better. Their shots from their runway show included funny behind the scene shots of the models as they made funny faces walking off the catwalk. I even fell in love with all the images on their Spring 2013 inspiration board, instantly wishing that was exactly what my tumblr looked like.

For a little bit more background, SUNO is a New York based womenswear label founded in 2008 by Max Osterwis and in collaboration with designer Erin Beatty. Part of the interesting element of SUNO (that makes it even cooler than it already is) is its connection with Kenya, which Osterweis considers a second home. SUNO's first collection was launched in 2009, right after the post-election violence threatened the economy in Kenya. This first collection was produced primarily in Kenya, using vintage Kenyan textiles that Osterweis has collected over the years.
Since that first collection, SUNO has continued to use production in Keyna, India, Peru, as well as their home base of New York using a combo of traditional and local techniques with high-end tailoring. Really using the countries they produce in as more than mere factories but also as inspiration for design and technique gives SUNO something a little special in their collections.

Unfortunately, the price range for all their items are a little out of my just-came-out-of-the-most-expensive-semester-of-my-unemployed-college-student-ass. Most of the dresses range around $600, but you know I girl can always dream....
I might be able to afford the shoes though if I save! These are only $60.

What We're Listening To: Ben Howard's Call Me Maybe

I'm sure that by now you have all heard the wonderful musical musings of Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe'. I remember the first time I heard the lyrics. Hey I just met you, and this is crazy. But here's my number, so call me maybe? I was in class and was positive that my friend was just showing me a giant joke. I mean, what was this song? What were those lyrics? She must be the only person in the world who even knew about this song by a random canadian chick.
But as my week continued, I realized that I had a couple lines stuck in my head and proceeded to find it on YouTube. After that, the entire song was stuck in my head. But not in an annoying way, in fact I wanted to hear it; it was just so catchy. I would be in my guy friends' room where they'd be listening to their dupstep or whatever and I would highjack the pregame music, forcing them to listen as I sung along with that one line like an overly hyper child: Hey I just met you, and this is crazy. But here's my number, so call me maybe?
Soon after, my entire campus and apparently the whole world was singing these lines. I would be at a frat party or the "Jug" (a local nightclub of sorts in my college town) and everyone would scream with excitement as the recognizable intro would play. Suddenly the entire room would be singing giddily (or was that just drunkenly) Hey I just met you, and this is crazy. But here's my number, so call me maybe? And I have to admit that that's one of my favorite parts of this song. Everyone knows it, and everyone gets so excited when it comes on. It may be a trashy song, but I am in no way ashamed to admit that I love it. Even months after I first heard it.
With 'Call Me Maybe' becoming an overnight sensation, YouTube got in on the action. My favorite was definitely the video with the Harvard baseball team. They were just so cute! And who didn't just love the guy in the back sleeping the whole time. Or the not cute guy in the glasses who was actually super into it. My favorite part was probably at the end when they go back to chillin listening to their rap music.
But I recently found one that is completely stuck in my head and amazing by Ben Howard. For the past month or so, I've been listening non-stop to a rotation of Ben Howard songs and 'Call Me Maybe,' so when I saw this cover it just seemed perfect. Somehow, it even met my expectations. Ben Howard manages to make this catchy yet admittedly pretty dumb song beautiful and maybe even meaningful.
I'm not sure about all of you, but sometimes I can't hear the lyrics of songs, especially pop songs. That's part of the reason why I love covers so much. (Remember my obsession with this cover?) You just have a new singer, a new key, and a new way of approaching the song. They're no longer just the song and lyrics I know superficially, but they say it a little differently to make me listen. I'd trade my soul for a kiss, pennies and dimes for a kiss, I wasn't looking for this, but you're in my way. So not the most magical lyrics in the world, but nearly as horrible as the I missed you so bad, I missed you so so bad. You normally think about. I have to say my favorite moment of this video is the classic Hey I just met you, and this is crazy. But here's my number, so call me maybe? line. When he starts this line he looks up and just starts smiling. It's too cute! Check this video out and I promise you'll get 'Call Me Maybe' stuck in your head in a whole other way. This video is actually the inspiration for this post. So you should definitely listen to this video if you made it all the way down to this point.

If this post got you rehooked on 'Call Me Maybe' and are looking for more covers or videos, check out this link. Some of these other videos are pretty funny. Comment with reviews, other covers or funny videos and remember to follow!
